ŠTEFAN RUZOVICKI / Stefan Ruzowitzky
Stefan Ruzowitzky was born in 1961 in Vienna and studied Theatre Studies and History. He developed journalistic reports and shows for TV and directed multiple music videos and commercials. When directing feature films he has always attempted the balancing act between arthouse and mainstream. He successfully achieved this with the box office hits Anatomy (2000) and Lilly the Witch: The Dragon and the Magic Book (2009) on the one hand and with arthouse successes like The Inheritors (1998) and The Counterfeiters (2007) on the other. For The Counterfeiters he received the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film in 2008.
A German literary classic, Hermann Hesse’s tale about an unlikely friendship between a monk and an artist hits the screen in its first-ever movie adaptation, helmed by Stefan Ruzowitzky.
