Metal drummer Ruben begins to lose his hearing. When a doctor tells him his condition will worsen, he thinks his career and life is over. His girlfriend Lou checks the former addict into a rehab for the deaf hoping it will prevent a relapse and help him adapt to his new life. After being welcomed and accepted just as he is, Ruben must choose between his new normal and the life he once knew.

DARIJUS MARDER / DARIUS MARDER
Darius Marder is an American director, screenwriter, and editor. He has directed the feature documentary Loot (2008), and co-wrote the screenplay for the The Place Beyond the Pines (2012). Sound of Metal (2019) is his latest directorial work, which has become a festival hit and a contender for awards.
Sound of Metal is a piece of terrific filmmaking - and its achievements are even more impressive considering Hollywood’s depictions of deafness in the past.
