Puriša Đorđević: I Am Pleasantly Surprised by the FEST Award

On Sunday, May 9, in the Kombank Hall, director Puriša Đorđević gave a lecture ‘Eisenstein - Theatre’. Based on Vyacheslav Ivanov's book on the aesthetics of the great filmmaker of world cinema, Đorđević presented his thoughts on the work of Sergei Mikhailovich Eisenstein and his work in the wake of World War II, after the Hitler-Stalin Nonaggression Pact.

In the overture of the lecture, Puriša Đorđević stated that he was pleasantly surprised by the Belgrade Victor FEST award. About his attitude towards this event during five decades, he said: ‘I visited it. I chose films and knew which directors I wanted to see. And now I am delighted with this current art director, who called me on the phone and agreed to my idea.’

We remind you that Puriša Đorđević is one of the two recipients of this year's Belgrade Victor Honorary FEST Award for Outstanding Contribution to film Art, along with actor Rade Šerbedžija. At the opening ceremony in the Sava Centre, the award was presented to him by Borislav Anđelić, the doyen of film criticism and the former artistic director of our most prestigious film event.

This May, Puriša Đorđević turned 97, of which he spent 73 on film. There are 18 feature films, five TV films, and over fifty short films in his filmography. He has published three plays, ten novels, and received a handful of domestic and international awards from Venice, through Moscow to Rio de Janeiro. Films created between 1965 and 1970 made Puriša Đorđević a famous European director. Although he made films in parallel with the filmmakers of the Black Wave, he claims that he did not belong to that movement. He consolidated the anarchic, fragmentary dramaturgy in Yugoslav cinematography, succeeding in combining the experiences of Russian brilliant filmmakers, Eisenstein, Dovzhenko, Vertov, with the poetics of Godard, Resnais, Robbe-Grillet.

On Sunday, May 9, in the Kombank Hall, a special concert film ‘Satori at Golubac Fortress: Voices of Nine Towers’ with the performance of the esteemed Dutch artist Satori, which was shot at the medieval Golubac Fortress, will be premiered at a closed screening. Additionally, this is the announcement of Satori's new album in EXIT's production, which will present Serbian and Balkan traditional music to the world in a modern arrangement. Immediately after the start of the screening in the Kombank Hall, the global broadcast on the official Facebook page of the EXIT festival and Beatport will begin, at 8.21 p.m., while at 10.50 p.m. the film will be broadcast on the programme of RTS 2.

On Monday, May 10, the audience will be able to watch the premiere of the short film ‘Look at Me’ directed by Nika Fehmiu (Kombank Hall at 7 p.m.), while the repertoire will include reruns of the feature film ‘Deadlock’ by Vinko Möderndorfer (Cineplexx Galerija Belgrade at 11.30 a.m.) and of the short film ‘Family Vacation’ by Katarina Koljević (Kombank Hall at 11:30 a.m.).
